Getting Started

How do I add my first medication?

1. Open MedChime and tap the Meds tab at the bottom

2. Tap the + button in the bottom right corner

3. Start typing your medication name — MedChime will suggest matches from its built-in database. Select a suggestion or type the full name manually

4. Enter the dose

5. Select how often you take it (once daily, twice daily, three times daily, custom, or as needed)

6. If scheduled, choose a reminder time

7. Pick a custom icon — choose a pill shape, colour, or medical device icon to help you recognise it quickly

8. Tap Save

That’s it! For scheduled medications, you’ll receive your first reminder at the scheduled time. For as-needed medications, a Log button will appear on your Today screen.

Do I need to create an account?
No! MedChime works without any account or registration. Your data is stored locally on your device.
How do I allow notifications?

When you first open MedChime (or add your first medication), you’ll be prompted to allow notifications. Tap “Allow” to enable reminders.

If you accidentally denied permission:

1. Go to your phone’s Settings

2. Tap AppsMedChime

3. Tap Notifications

4. Enable notifications

Reminders & Notifications

My reminders aren’t working. What should I check?

1. Notifications enabled? Settings → Apps → MedChime → Notifications → On

2. Battery optimisation? Some phones disable apps to save battery. Go to Settings → Battery → MedChime and select “Don’t optimise” or “Unrestricted”

3. Do Not Disturb? Check if DND is blocking MedChime notifications

4. Reminder enabled? Open the medication in MedChime and make sure the reminder toggle is on

How do I snooze a reminder?
When a notification appears, tap Snooze. You can choose to snooze for 10, 15, or 30 minutes.
Can I set multiple reminder times for one medication?
Yes! When adding or editing a medication, select “Custom” frequency and add as many reminder times as you need.
What are full-screen alarms?
For critical medications, you can enable a full-screen alarm that takes over your display when it’s time for a dose. This is a Pro feature and can be enabled per medication.
What are persistent reminders?
Persistent reminders (Pro) will repeat the notification until you respond. This is useful for critical medications where you absolutely must not miss a dose.
How do I change the notification sound?
With MedChime Pro, go to SettingsNotification Sound and choose from a selection of gentle chimes.

As-Needed Medications

How do I add an as-needed medication?

1. Go to the Meds tab

2. Tap the + button

3. Enter the medication name and dose

4. Under “How often?”, select As needed

5. Tap Save — No Reminders

The medication will appear in the “As Needed” section on your Today screen. Tap Log whenever you take a dose.

Where do I find my as-needed medications?

On the Today screen, scroll below your scheduled medications. The “As Needed” section is collapsed by default — tap it to expand.

On the Meds tab, use the Scheduled / As Needed tabs at the top to switch between the two types.

Do as-needed medications affect my adherence score?
No. As-needed medications are tracked completely separately. They don’t appear in your progress ring, streak count, or adherence percentage.
Can I see how often I use an as-needed medication?
Yes. The History tab shows monthly usage counts and weekly averages for each as-needed medication in a dedicated section.
Do as-needed medications count towards my free limit?
Yes. The free tier allows up to 5 medications total, whether they’re scheduled or as-needed.

History & Statistics

Where can I see my medication history?
Tap the History tab to see your scheduled adherence for the current week, as-needed medication usage for the current month, recent activity (which medications you took and when, including dose amounts), your current streak (Pro feature), and detailed adherence statistics (Pro feature).
What do the colours in the week chart mean?

Green: 100% adherence that day

Amber: 50–99% adherence

Red: Less than 50% adherence

How is adherence percentage calculated?
Adherence = (Scheduled medications taken ÷ Scheduled medications due) × 100. As-needed medications are not included in this calculation.
Does MedChime track my dose history?
Yes. Every time you log a dose, MedChime records the actual dose amount at that point in time. If your doctor later changes your dose, your history still shows what you actually took. This is useful when reviewing your medication history with your GP.

2. Tap Create Backup

Troubleshooting

The app is crashing

1. Make sure you have the latest version (check Google Play for updates)

2. Try restarting your phone

3. If the problem continues, email us at support@medchime.com with your phone model, Android version, and what you were doing when it crashed

My medications disappeared

This can happen if you uninstalled and reinstalled the app (data is stored locally) or you switched phones without backing up.

Unfortunately, we cannot recover lost data since it was only stored on your device.

Prevention: Use the Backup feature (Pro) regularly.
